The Southpoint Advantage
What makes us unique?
Personalized doctor-patient care
See Dr. Spano for all of your periodontal concerns as he treats your case from start to finish. No referral is required.
Interdisciplinary care with your general dentist and/or other dental specialist(s)
Dr. Spano works with your referring dentist and/or specialist in a time sensitive manner. Letters are sent following your visit to review the recommended treatment plan. Dr. Spano makes it his primary concern to work closely with your referring primary dental care provider.
Sedation services
Allows for a comfortable experience for every procedure by offering you sedation. At consultation, Dr. Spano will work with you to decide the level of sedation most appropriate for your specific needs with respect to the type of treatment that is required.
Platelet-rich fibrin therapy
Concentrates a rich supply of platelets and growth factors from your own blood to improve and accelerate wound healing. This can be used in a variety of periodontal procedures including gum grafting, bone grafting and dental implant surgery.
Dental cone beam imaging
Provides (3-D) images of your teeth, surrounding anatomy and bone in a single scan. This imaging can then be used with state of the art computer software technology to provide a virtual demonstration of your dental implant placement and custom made guided implant templates for minimally invasive dental implant placement.
Unfortunately, there are times when it is in your best interest to have a tooth extracted (removed). This could be the case for a variety of reasons. If dental implants are an option preserving the site with a bone graft to maintain bone width and height is something that should be performed at the time of tooth removal.
TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
Dental implants are titanium-based human made roots that are used to support artificial teeth. They are the most modern way to replace a missing tooth, multiple teeth or teeth for the entire mouth. At the consultation appointment, Dr. Spano will assess the health of the gums and remaining teeth to determine whether dental implants are the right choice for you.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Performed with or without local anaesthetic in an attempt to to remove as much debris (calculus and plaque) that have built up on the tooth crown and root surface. In many instances, Dr. Spano will advise scaling and root planing as a form of non-surgical treatment prior to any surgical or pharmacological periodontal therapy.

SERVICES
Meet Dr. Spano for the first time to discuss your dental concerns and medical history. This will be followed by a comprehensive clinical and radiographic examination. Following consultation Dr. Spano will be able to determine which treatment options are best for you and provide you with a custom treatment plan to address your specific periodontal needs.
PERIODONTAL EXAMINATION
PERIODONTAL EXAMINATION
Treating gum disease begins with the removal of any plaque and hardened deposits (tartar or calculus) on the tooth root surfaces. This may be followed by a variety of non-surgical and/or surgical techniques to disinfect and remove diseased tissue and restore a healthy mouth.
GUM DISEASE
GUM DISEASE
GUM RECESSION
GUM RECESSION
Soft tissue grafting (gum grafting) can be recommended to stop gum recession and bone loss while reducing tooth sensitivity and protecting your exposed tooth roots from cavities. Soft tissue grafting can also improve the aesthetics of your gum line around your teeth providing you with a confident and healthy smile. Dr. Spano provides several treatment options including your own tissue, cadaver tissue or Pinhole®Surgical Technique.
Gum tissue and/or bone are removed to expose the tooth’s structure in order to prepare the tooth for a dental crown or improve your smile aesthetics by treating your ‘gummy smile’ or ‘short teeth’.
CROWN LENGTHENING
CROWN LENGTHENING
Sometimes teeth fail to erupt through the gums and can become impacted. This can involve any tooth, but is very common with the canine (eye) teeth. One of the treatment options you, your dentist and/or orthodontist may decide on is to expose and move the tooth into the right position in the jaw. This is where Dr. Spano will become involved by providing surgical treatment to reposition the gum and/or bone that covers the impacted tooth and expose the tooth.

This procedure provides the maxillary sinus (upper jaw) with the bone height needed for dental implants. There are two types of sinus lift augmentation procedures: Direct and Indirect. The appropriate treatment option is determined following consultation and advanced diagnostic imaging. In most cases the sinus augmentation can be performed simultaneously with dental implant placement reducing overall surgical and recovery time.
SINUS LIFTS
SINUS LIFTS
This is performed in an attempt to rebuild tissue and bone around your teeth that has been lost due to periodontal disease or to increase the quality and quantity of the bone in your jaw to support dental implants or other prosthetics.
